SHIFT:  Full Time, Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm (some overtime may be necessary as needed)


LOCATION: the Finance Decision Support team is located in our Jericho NY headquarters.  Long Island NY is the ideal candidate location, however, we are open to various geographic locations within the US. 


Job Summary:

Decision Support is part of the Finance department at Purolator International.  The Financial Analyst collects, tracks, analyzes and disseminates information that provides support to a variety of stakeholders i.e. corporate, sales representatives etc.  This position is a resource charged with establishing and maintaining a company's data policy and will be a resource for the Purolator International Decision Support Group especially with analysis and reporting.  


The role of the Analyst has become increasingly important as Purolator International accumulates rapidly growing collections of sensitive enterprise data, information that must be used across all sectors of the corporate environment.   The incumbent will interact with managers and employees across all segments of the company’s operations. This is essential to determine the sometimes conflicting needs of various departments and to develop a data management strategy that works for everyone.


This is a very fast paced, customer service focused department.  We are a customer service division with analytics, so the daily workload requires working with various departments to support our customers, multi-tasking, and the ability to self-motivate to meet deadlines. 


Experience Required In Order To Be Considered:

  • Excellent Excel skills (Pivot tables, VLookups, Date functions, etc)
  • SQL required – to be able to write queries to pull various sets of data and also perform operations with these sets before exporting the results out of SQL
  • Some experience of Accounting/Fin-l Analysis (i.e. accruals, revenue & expenses, variance analysis budget vs actual)


Preferred Experience (not required):

  • Business Analytics Tools (Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx, Adaptive Planning, Python are some examples)


Daily Functions:

  • Responsible for ensuring data consistency and integrity as part of reporting responsibilities
  • Identify the needs of the business and its users
  • Performs a variety of ratings analysis using built models. Makes logical decisions on how to present findings that would best suit sales representatives and sales managers; gains a solid understanding of sales reps. requests in order to provide accurate and useful information
  • Performs shipping profile analysis and provide accurate measurements of client/potential client volumes per lane, per weight bracket, product mix etc.
  • Meets established service levels as identified by the Manager of Corporate Finance and Operations by using the Ticketing System
  • Performs weekly, monthly and ad-hoc financial analysis related to volumes, various types of revenues; run reports using existing systems and consolidate or disseminate reports depending on requirements
  • Supports internal corporate requests i.e. client profitability analysis, variances for branches; collect and consolidate the information required to support branch and/or corporate decision-making
  • Assists with the yearly budget planning process by uploading templates and verifying data accuracy to avoid potential errors in the planning process


Decision Support:

  • Follows logical steps when analyzing any data set and identify missing data points that are critical to providing accurate information 
  • Works with a large variety of stakeholders i.e. sales teams, corporate clients; maintain good communication and work relationships as data needs to be collected from these stakeholders in order to provide accurate reporting
  • Compiles shipping profiles with respect to contracts, line haul examinations and customer shipping request reviews 
  • Own the content & accuracy of the analysis results, be able to explain why the results look the way they do


Sales Support:

  • Influence the design of reports and processes. Testing for optimal performance will be a key functional responsibility
  • Deliver reports requested by the sales organization on time according to Ticketing System due dates. Ensure that the daily goals of responsiveness and accuracy are met

  • Use reasoning skills to solve problems within organizational time and cost constraints.

  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal) and demonstrated ability to work with all levels of an organization
  • Strong personal motivation and enthusiasm, interest in and commitment to making a difference in the organization
  • Ability to understand reporting tools and troubleshoot data flow issues or inaccuracies independently


Education and/ or Work Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Finance, Accounting, Math, Statistics or related field with an inclination towards quantitative studies (math or statistics)
  • 2 + years’ on-the-job related experience


Working conditions under which the job is performed include, but are not limited to concentrated visual or auditory attention, repetitive movements (i.e. typing, data entry, data analysis), heavy computer work, constant sitting at workstation.
