Job Summary:

The Director of Human Resources is a business focused individual who leads and develops Purolator International’s HR strategy to align with the needs of the business. Key components include, but are not limited to, counsel to the SVP and ELT, organizational development, succession and career planning, recruitment, learning and development, employee engagement, performance management, employee relations, payroll, benefits administration, internal and external corporate communications, compliance with state and federal employment law. The Director ensures that human resources initiatives are integrated with corporate and departmental business objectives and continuously works with leadership to create an increasingly productive organization. The Director provides leadership and support to his/her team to ensure that overall HR service delivery meets the needs of Purolator Internationals employees.   


Essential Functions:

  • Develops and leads the implementation of Purolator International’s human resources strategy and related plans that compliment business objective e.g., DE&I, Succession design, Learning and Development.
  • Partners with members of the Executive Leadership Team to examine a variety of issues within departments i.e. productivity, engagement, navigating thru critical issues such as pandemics, Health and Safety, organizational design etc. and works with the HR team to develop solutions.
  • Develops strategies for internal and external corporate communications; ensures dedicated resources support the HR team with internal communications requirements and various other department for critical external communications e.g., CX. 
  • Leads, manages, and supports the organization by utilizing best practices in all areas, including but not limited to, org development, recruitment/retention, onboarding/training, employee relations, performance management, benefits selection and administration, regulatory compliance and legal requirements as related to HR
  • Oversees a team of HR professionals to ensure HR service delivery meets the needs of various business units/departments; hires coaches and develops members of the HR team.
  • Establishes key performance indicators reflected in a dashboard indicating the health of the organization e.g., HCROI.
  • Works alongside the HR team located in Canada to ensure alignment between Canadian and US HR management operations.
  • Lead COVID safety and planning initiatives.
  • Builds strong relationships and credibility across all levels of management and staff.
  • Develops and manages the HR budget reflecting the focus on all critical HR related activities
  • Carries out other duties as appropriate and as assigned by the SVP


Ideal candidate must possess the following qualifications:

  • Broad and considerable knowledge/experience in multiple human resource areas including but not limited to recruitment, employee relations, regulatory compliance, group benefits plan management, performance managements, corporate communications, training and development etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide human resource support including problem solving and conflict resolution across a wide range of business areas.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to understand corporate business plans and ensure HR plans are supportive of overall business requirements.
  • Exceptional team building, communication and organizational management skills.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to clearly articulate ideas, concepts, plans etc. and influence others.
  • Ability to make sound decisions with limited direction; decisions are primarily guided by corporate objectives, broad policies, and long-range strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide solutions-based approaches to organizational issues/challenges; must be able to establish and articulate measures of success.


Education, Training and Experience:

•          At least 8-10 years of experience in Sr HR management with oversight experience managing disparate functions within HR

•          Bachelors’ degree in HR and/or business; MBA would be considered an asset but is not required.

•          Experience in the logistics and/or transportation industries would be considered a strong asset.
