SHIFT:  Full Time, Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm (some overtime may be necessary as needed)

 

ASSIGNMENT: This is a long term contract role, expected to last through August 2022.  Come August 2022, we will re-evaluate the needs of the assignment and will evaluate any possibility for a permanent placement within the organization under the Finance division. 

 

For the duration of the contract assignment, we will be offering healthcare benefits, 401k eligibility and paid time off. 

 

LOCATION:  The Finance team is based in our Long Island NY headquarters.  Long Island NY is the ideal candidate location, however, we are open to various geographic locations within the US.

 

Job Summary:

The Senior Finance Specialist is responsible for ensuring key accounting operations activities are completed in an accurate and timely manner. This role requires that accurate reports are generated and distributed in a timely manner, investigates and explains reporting discrepancies.

 

Specific activities include, but are not limited to, revenue, margin and profitability reporting, transportation expense reporting, validation, approval and reconciliation etc. The Senior Finance Specialist works at a cross-functional level to ensure the necessary financial information is collected and delivered in a timely manner.

 

This is a very fast paced, customer service focused department.  The daily workload requires working with various departments to support our customers, multi-tasking, and the ability to self-motivate to meet deadlines. 

 

Experience Required In Order To Be Considered:

  • 5+ years’ experience as an Accountant or Finance Analyst
  • 3+ years’ Margin & Profitability reporting
  • 3+ years working with financial management systems
  • 3+ years month-end and quarter-end close processes
  • Experience performing Microsoft Excel pivot tables & v-lookup
  • Power Point presentations and waterfall charts/graphs experience
  • High degree of familiarity with standard financial statements/reports

 

Daily Functions:

  • Maintains an accurate database of transportation expense reporting, ensures weekly reports generated by the team are accurate; works with team members to investigate reporting errors, issues or discrepancies
  • Monthly and quarterly customer margin and profitability reporting
  • Monthly Executive Leadership meeting reporting and presentation preparation: costs, revenue, service metrics and other data points
  • Oversees the processing and accurate recording of carrier expenses; ensures the related reports are up-to-date and accurate for billing purposes
  • Assist in the quarterly sales incentive reporting: sales incentive finalization, estimated margin report
  • Month-end and quarter-end close processes; prepares journal entries and account reconciliations for various accounts
  • Works with the finance team and other business units to meet reporting deadlines
  • Supports a variety of information requests and responds to questions during quarterly reviews and annual audits; supports special projects as required
  • Identifies, improves, and standardizes processes within Finance where possible
  • Provides support to the Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis as needed i.e. preparing power point presentations, compiling adhoc reports, investigating complex reporting issues etc
  • Works closely with Canada’s finance department to ensure systems and financial information are integrated
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:

  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal & written with the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial audiences
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced/demanding environment
  • Ability to be self-motivated and work with minimal supervision
  • Strong analytical and investigative abilities to ensure financial information is recorded and presented accurately
  • Ability to operate in a deadline driven environment that requires information from a variety of stakeholders

 

Education and/ or Work Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in Finance preferably Accounting
  • Microsoft Access preferred
  • Working knowledge of SAP Financial is preferred, not required
  • Freight forwarding & Logistics industry experience a plus, not required
  • Microsoft Excel Macros knowledge is preferred, not required
