Description

The Control System Specialist reports to the Regional Maintenance Manager and is responsible to optimize the efficiency and reliability of MHE control systems 

Responsibilities

  • Configure or modify PLC message instructions, VFD parameters and network settings.
  • Develop Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), controls narratives, and testing protocols for new and existing systems
  • Lead controls service technicians with troubleshooting and modifying MHE controls and develop/facilitate training plans for controls technicians.
  • Implement a robust support documentation system, for drive troubleshooting and maintenance.
  •  Read and troubleshoot machine electrical drawings.
  • Support the development of enterprise wide hardware, programming, and documentation strategies and standards, for controls and drives systems.
  • Support the work of outside contractors and consultants on specifying equipment, controls, drives and system installs as necessary.
  • Support Operations teams by designing solutions for conveyor systems and identifying improvement opportunities
  • Maintain awareness of new capabilities and technologies as they relate to controls, drives and web handling. When applicable, support the implementation and adoption of new technologies.
  • Be the primary contact for after hrs. support across Central Region sites - able to co-ordinate with external stakeholders. and local techs during disruption events.
  • Partner with Material Handling Equipment Integrator and other supplier groups in the testing & performance validation of the systems
  • Support the definition and implementation of the equipment-based control systems for upgrades/improvements to existing and new hubs. Engaging with vendors, IT and operations to ensure a functional system is established and executed.
  • Routinely carrying out Audits on site of PM's performed by MHE technicians/ Electricians in Liaison with the Supervisors to check and ensure the Equipment health is optimum and in all state of readiness for Operations.
  • To perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA), for issues that are related to Control and automation and submit to Maintenance manager for review

Qualifications

  • Hands-on PLC troubleshooting experience with Allen-Bradley and Siemens platforms.
  • Experience with Studio 5000 / RSLogix 5000, RSLogix 500, FactoryTalk View / PanelView, and Siemens TIA Portal.
  • PLC programming knowledge in Ladder Logic and Structured Text; Function Block is preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting SCADA, HMI, VFD, remote IO, industrial network, and field device issues.
  • Working knowledge of PowerFlex, SINAMICS G120, SEW Eurodrive, Stratix switches, EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Profibus, Modbus TCP, and CC-Link.
  • Experience with conveyor/sortation controls, MDR systems, Itoh Denki, Interroll, Balluff devices, scanners, weigh scales, sensors, encoders, and motor controls.
  • Ability to support electricians during equipment breakdowns, interpret AutoCAD drawings and controls-related troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of safety PLCs, safety relays, E-stops, STO circuits, and safety IO is preferred.
  • Assets: Ignition SCADA, Mitsubishi PLC/sorter systems,EPLAN/Single-Line Diagrams, SQL/database basics, historian tools, remote access tools, and Statement List/STL programming.

Education

Post-secondary education in Electrical or Automation Engineering or equivalent from a recognized post­secondary institution. 

Experience

Minimum 3 years of experience working with SCADA, PLC, and automated control systems in an industrial or manufacturing environment. 

Language Requirement: Proficiency in English is required for this position due to the frequent communications that must be conducted in English with various stakeholders. This requirement is justified by the nature of the responsibilities and operational needs.
