Description
The Sort Manager supervises one or more business units in the Warehouse/Sort facility with the intent of regulating sortation. Together with other Managers, the Sort Manager is responsible for the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the Warehouse/Sort facility.
Responsibilities
• Evaluate employee performance against established objectives.
• Assess employee ability to meet compliance regulations and ensure all necessary training is delivered to meet employees’ needs.
• Execute key activities in the employee lifecycle to manage direct report employees (Including employee recruitment, promotion and termination activities etc.)
• Perform on-the-job supervision with all dock staff to ensure compliance and job standards are met
• Track the operating metrics and financial performance of services within the unit on a weekly and monthly basis
• Enforce appropriate controls to safeguard assets and mitigate risks
• Participate and potentially co-chair Warehouse/Sort facility Health and Safety committee
• Promote an interdependent safety culture and adherence to safety policies within the Warehouse/Sort facility, ensuring high quality and low risk
• Manage the necessary audit of equipment and system layouts and ensure the safety of the operations
• Identify and resolve issues and potential problems related to maintenance and equipment
• Conduct injury, incident and accident investigations and necessary follow ups, and implement necessary corrective measures
• Manage supply (dunnage) levels and help maintain a return program
• Apply collective bargaining agreement and labour relations understanding in all operational and employee related decision making
• Influence Warehouse/Sort facility labour relations discussions by providing management with the necessary information
• Manage the partner and vendor relations to support the Warehouse/Sort facility needs and objectives
• Represent and model Purolator’s values and culture in the management of the Warehouse/Sort facility
• Promote Trak 3 generation activities to achieve revenue capture KPI’s
• Maintain ISO 9001 procedures and quality standards
Additional Responsibilities
• Establish and implement effective and efficient operating policies and procedures
• Continuously identify and drive opportunities for improvements within the Warehouse/Sort facility, utilizing lean principles and methodology
• Ensure the effective and efficient resolution to all customer issues and ensure all work efforts aim at providing outstanding customer services
• Provide necessary direction and leadership to enable employees to meet their performance expectations and their customer service, and safety and Warehouse/Sort facility targets
• Deliver necessary training and coaching to enable employees to meet performance expectations.
• Plan, coordinate and manage business operations in the unit to achieve their operating metrics and financial goals.
• Perform resource allocation, workload assignment and schedule management to optimize day-to-day operations
• Manage and balance vehicle utilization or trailer pools to accommodate customer fluctuations, capacity needs and seasonality
• Verify appropriate hours of work for employees, and authorize appropriate payroll.
• Participate and respond to quality and safety audits
• Partner with internal departments namely HR, H&S, LR, Finance, Sales, Retail, Payroll, and Engineering to ensure compliance, build capability and facilitate the customer experience
Education
Completing Post-Secondary Qualification.
Experience
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a supervisory and/or management role. Manage a group of 1-40 employees
• Experience in an automated sortation facility
• Experience managing unionized employees
• Experience in safety leadership
• Facilitate effective project management
• Experience in Lean methodologies
Skills
Language Requirement: Proficiency in English is required for this position due to the frequent communications that must be conducted in English with various stakeholders. This requirement is justified by the nature of the responsibilities and operational needs.
