Description

Responsible for supporting the Manager, Accounts Payable in daily operations of the Accounts Payable Department, ensuring adherence to company policy, delegation of authority, accounting standards and policies in effect, while meeting critical deadlines and managing efficiencies.
 

Responsibilities

  • Providing guidance and coaching to team members to ensure compliance and adherence with AP processes and corporate objectives as a whole.
  • Ensuring that all month end, quarter end, and year-end planning is conducted on time to support overall strategy and objectives.
  • Lead system upgrades and enhancement projects including development, testing and implementation of any AP related projects.
  • Provides support with shared activities, ensures accurate input is provided to Corporate Accounting processes and assists with quarterly and annual audit inquiries.
  • Prepare standard and ad-hoc reports for the Procure-To-Pay team, Finance team and other internal stakeholders.
  • Assess situations, interpret impact, establish, and communicate effective courses of action that drive on-track business results within the department and wider organization.
  • Work independently on day-to-day operation with some input from the AP Manager and assist with interviews, provide input on people-related matters (employment and separation) as required.
  • Employ initiative and suggest enhancements to day-to-day procedures with input or feedback from the AP Manager.
  • Excellent analytical skills, results-driven, ability to interpret large data sets.
  • Assist the Accounts Payable Manager with the preparation of the annual department budget, monitor and assist with actions needed to meet the department’s objective to stay within plan
  • Coach or provide training for team members to acquire necessary skills and performance attributes, in line with business and personal development needs.
  • Provide guidance to and shares knowledge with colleagues/team members related to their areas of specialization.
  • Assist Accounts Payable manager to create team metrics and other measurements to review the AP team’s performance in line with company strategy and objectives.
  • Escalate potential service or people-related issues to the Accounts Payable Manager.
  • Assign back-up role for vacation, other absences, and high-volume work efforts/peak times.
  • Directs work within clear budgetary guidelines.
     

Additional Responsibilities

  • Continuous improvement mindset and ongoing review for process improvement opportunities.
  • Strong communication skills - both verbal and written communication with individuals at all levels, including leadership team, internal and external business partners.
  • Clear ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple deliverables.
  • Knowledge and understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards.

Education

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a Finance-related area.

Experience

  • Accounting designation would be an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years of AP experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Extensive user knowledge of SAP or other ERP programs.
  • CLI - AP module (an asset).
  • Detailed knowledge of Canada's Sales Tax rules.
  • Experience with system implementations, enhancements, and integration.
  • Ability to effectively supervise team members and able to organize work activities for other members of that team.
  • Highly effective organization skills, attention to detail, and following through to resolve any outstanding issues.
  • Able to work and adapt quickly in a continuously changing environment.
  • Highly organized and able to prioritize multiple tasks and deliverables within assigned deadlines.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and effectively train team members in any system used by the team.Ability to review processes and provide automated solutions to improve efficiencies.
  • Proficient with Excel, data analysis, decision making and presentation skills.
