Description
As a Business Systems Analyst – EDI & Integration, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing electronic data interchange (EDI) processes, and ensuring the accurate and efficient transfer of data between internal systems and trading partners. A key aspect of the role includes overseeing the evolution of Purolator’s B2B data products. This will include customer onboarding processes and driving the evolution of EDI services to meet changing business needs. You will also be involved in testing enhancements and troubleshooting EDI issues while maintaining compliance with industry standards. This group manages the data exchange for the majority of Purolator’s Order, shipment status and Invoicing transactions.

Responsibilities
1. Strategic Competencies
Market, Customer, and Product Insights
• Conduct research to understand customer needs, pain points, and workflows, and synthesize insights for the
Product Manager.
• Analyze market trends, regulatory requirements, and competitive solutions to highlight opportunities or risks.
• Support creation of business cases, ROI assessments, and impact analyses for new product initiatives.
Alignment to Product Strategy
• Ensure all requirement documentation, process models, and solution proposals align with the Product vision, objectives, and roadmap.
• Identify gaps between current-state processes and the strategic direction of the product.
• Provide the PM with structured data to support prioritization of features and enhancements.
2. Operational Competencies
Requirements and Documentation
• Elicit, validate, and document detailed functional and non-functional requirements through interviews, workshops, and analysis.
• Convert user and business needs into artifacts including user stories, acceptance criteria, process maps, data flows, and use cases.
• Assist in our transition from Rule-Oriented formats to Scenario-Oriented stories using Gherkin (Given-When-Then).
• Maintain traceability between requirements, solution design, and delivered features.
Process Analysis & Optimization
• Map and analyze current-state processes; identify inefficiencies and improvement opportunities.
• Define future-state workflows that support target business outcomes and product goals.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation, including both using and developing AI-driven tools.
• Coordinate with SMEs and engineering to validate feasibility and constraints.
Support Delivery & Execution
• Assist PM and Engineering in clarifying requirements, answering questions, and refining user stories.
• Participate in backlog grooming, sprint planning, and day-to-day delivery rituals as the primary detail owner.
• Review and validate test plans for EDI enhancements and integrations.
• Comfortable with using Xray or Zephyr for Jira to link requirements to test cases and ensure traceability.
• Validate data mapping and translation accuracy for EDI formats (ANSI X12, EDIFACT).
• Validate implemented features against requirements and acceptance criteria before release.
Data & Metrics Support
• Gather data for KPIs, user behavior, and performance metrics to support product decisions.
• Assist in defining measurement frameworks for new features and customer journeys.
3. Leadership Competencies
Cross-Functional Coordination
• Act as a liaison among business units, engineering, design, operations, and legal to ensure consistent understanding of product needs.
• Facilitate workshops, requirements sessions, and stakeholder reviews with clear documentation and follow-up.
Stakeholder Engagement
• Translate complex technical or process concepts into clear business language.
• Manage stakeholder expectations by surfacing trade-offs, dependencies, and risks early.
• Ensure the voice of the customer is represented in discussions and decision-making.
Quality & Change Readiness
• Support change management activities by preparing operational teams for new features (training materials, process updates, release notes).
• Identify risks and issues related to requirements, adoption, or process changes and escalate appropriately.
• Drive continuous improvement in requirements practices, documentation quality, and collaboration methods.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years in IT services with a focus on systems analysis and technology solutions.
- Hands-on experience with Jira, Confluence, EDI platforms, protocols (AS2, SFTP), and SAP invoicing.
Experience
Required Technical Skills
• Process Mapping Tools: Proficiency in Miro, Visio, or Lucidchart for process maps and sequence flows.
• Jira + Confluence: Strong experience in Epics, Stories, Tasks, and maintaining living documentation.
• Xray or Zephyr for Jira: Strong experience in test management and traceability.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Smart and Customer focused.
Nice-to-Have Skills
• EDI Integration Platforms: Cleo Integration Cloud (CIC) or IBM Sterling.
• Performance & Automation Testing: JMeter or Python-based frameworks.
• Cloud Expertise: AWS Certification or hands-on AWS experience.
• AI Readiness: Any AI-related certifications or experience adapting BA practices to AI-driven tools.
• Knowledge of supply chain processes and B2B customer data processes.
Additional Notes
- Live Skills Demonstration: Candidates will be expected to demonstrate Jira and BA capabilities in a practical test during the interview process.
- Work Arrangement: Hybrid – currently 3 days per week in-office (Mississauga, ON), subject to change.
