Job Description

This position is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing internal audit services that provide assurance of the adequacy and effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes within Purolator. In addition, this role will also provide advisory services and offer solution-oriented recommendations for improving risk management, control, and governance processes.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop an internal audit strategy
  • Lead the development and implementation of an internal audit plan using appropriate risk-based methodology
  • Assist in the development of a risk management strategy to identify key risks and monitor mitigation plans
  • Review the development, maintenance and implementation of policies and standardized procedures to optimize risk management and ensure compliance with our quality assurance program
  • Lead the execution of financial, operational, compliance and strategic internal audits
  • Report the status of audits to the executives and the Audit Committee on a quarterly basis
  • Advise the business on risk management and mitigation
  • Conduct consulting and advisory services related to governance, risk management and control processes
  • Collaborate with the business to identify areas for continuous improvement
  • Lead, manage and coach Internal audit resources effectively and efficiently

 

Ideal Requirements

  • Post-secondary qualification in business, accounting, finance
  • Certified Internal auditor
  • 10 years’ experience in Auditing
  • Demonstrated experience in assessing risk management
  • Demonstrated leadership at senior levels
  • Extensive experience in serving management/executive level clients in a risk, control, or other project capacity
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a complex, dynamic, and fast-paced environment with strong inherent project execution skills, including prioritizing tasks, balancing workload between multiple projects, anticipating next steps, adapting to changing situations and project scope
  • Experience in Lean / Continuous Improvement
  • Experience communicating with all levels of business
  • Experience dealing with Audit Committees

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Review and approve audit approach as well as key audit documents
  • Provide subject matter expertise related to internal audit to senior leadership
  • Lead the development of audit plans, procedures, and programs to evaluate the adequacy of the company’s internal control environment
  • Perform special investigations when required
  • Perform second level review of all test work performed and documented in accordance with internal audit procedures
  • Champion change management and continuous improvement in Internal audit to ensure alignment of expectations, standards, and principles
  • Review that appropriate metrics are in place to manage business risks and improve decision making; ensure strong accounting and operational control environment to safeguard Purolator and improve operations
  • Conduct training and education to the business as opportunities are identified through assurance and advisory work
  • Develop and manage the Internal Audit annual and forecasted budget
  • Execute key activities in the employee lifecycle of direct reports (including employee recruitment, promotion, and termination activities etc.)
  • Ensure employee engagement and enablement within team
  • Inspire, educate, and lead an experienced team and mentor junior leaders to reach department goals and meet growth requirements
