Job Description

The Lead Software Developer is responsible for creating and designing software applications and systems to support business functions and client requirements. Lead Software Developers analyze specifications to build efficient applications, conduct multiple quality testing, and enhance the user's interface. They also coordinate with the design team to improve the features of existing software applications for optimal performance.  The role will consult and work with Architecture, Software Delivery Managers, Product Owners, Security, technical groups, functional specialists, clients, and testers as required to ensure a sound solution is designed and implemented. This individual acts as the lead designer of the technical solution in collaboration with the solution architect.



  • Designs frameworks and technical solutions for moderate to complex products, to satisfy the functional requirements, with the product vision in mind
  • Define and develop functional specifications, and detailed designs of application solutions
  • Provides input to the application architecture
  • Provide basic design documents and translate into component-level designs to accelerate development.
  • Assist in developing technical documentation; participate in test-plan development, integration, and deployment
  • Lead technical design sessions, review design and development tasks
  • Perform code review in critical functionality areas
  • Establishes guidelines for development best practices, and coaches a team of developers to achieve the desired outcomes
  • Provides support to test teams during product and UAT testing of the technical solution developed
  • Prepares and implements the technical solution to the production environment
  • Investigates and provides post implementation support of the technical solution implemented
  • Facilitate and encourage collaboration, working as one team
  • Participates in daily status meetings and all other Agile ceremonies

  • Established expertise in developer tools or software development lifecycle (SDLC) systems (continuous integration, version control, source code repositories, build systems, package management, deployment tools, test frameworks, etc.)
  • Knowledge of professional software development practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Proven track record of building and managing high performing development teams.
  • Exceptional customer relationship skills including the ability to discover the true requirements underlying feature requests, recommend alternative technical and business approaches, and lead development efforts to meet timelines with optimal solutions
  • Demonstrated experience designing, building, and supporting systems in cloud environment
  • Demonstrated experience with Java back-end development, RESTful APIs, PostgreSQL, SOAP
  • Experience with various technologies and standards (e.g. Java, J2EE, Swing, bootstrap, Hibernate, Spring, Redux, Rxjs)
  • AWS serverless technologies – Lambda / SNS / SQS / S3
  • Web Technologies – HTML / CSS / Java / Angular
  • Database Technologies – SQL Server / AWS DynamoDB / PostgreSQL
  • Cloud monitoring – Cloudwatch / X-Ray / Insights
  • Excellence in technical communication with peers and non-technical stakeholders
  • High degree of comfort in fast-paced dynamic / ambiguous environment
  • 7+ years of experience working directly within development teams, and partnering with product OR program management teams
  • 2+ years of people management experience, managing developers
  • 2+ years of experience architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systems
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience
