Description

 

Reporting to the Director of Process & Performance Excellence, the Manager of Performance Initiatives will be responsible for providing strong leadership, direction, and sustainment of numerous projects and initiatives under the department's umbrella.

 

The position is highly visible, contributing to and maintaining the results of various strategic programs and initiatives. With oversight at a national level, the incumbent will enhance efficiency through cross-functional collaboration. Acting as a leader within the organization, this role requires the ability to train, coach, and mentor others on how to effectively use new technology and processes to promote continuous improvement, growth, and objective execution. The manager will also spearhead and oversee strategic initiatives, either cross-functionally or directly.

Responsibilities

 

 

  • Act as a subject matter expert for ongoing projects and procedures already in flight within the Process and Performance Excellence Department
    • Examples: Route Optimization, Sort Automation, Process Mapping, Engineering Standards, Training Within Industry, etc.
  • Introduce, lead, and be solely responsible for the outcomes of new projects led by the Process and Performance Department.
  • Responsible for executing high-value projects and processes after deployment, ensuring their sustainment and adoption into daily execution habits.
  • Create synergies between numerous procedures, processes, and technologies and explain how they'll work together to drive the organization's highest value and throughput.
  • Process creation and ability to ensure execution and governance of the process across the organization.
  • Develop short and long-term plans to manage terminal performance initiatives, introduce change by prioritizing areas of impact and driving continual scalable improvements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with department leads, including those in Transportation Operations, Field Operations, Health and Safety, Learning and Development, Finance, and IT, to ensure synergy of processes and successful change adoption.
  • Ongoing validation of the use and effectiveness of the tools and frameworks deployed.

Additional Responsibilities

 

  • Provide mentorship, training, and coaching to support the execution of numerous processes, procedures, and projects, especially during post-deployment.
  • Create and facilitate workshops for the organization based on ongoing priorities, new policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Responsibility for creating a community of best practices around deployed initiatives to incorporate into regular operating cadence and management methods.
  • Support the creation and approval process of business cases and related components (i.e. investment committee)
  • Contribute to and influence terminal and technology attributes of the future, provide user acceptance feedback, and identify opportunities to enhance further phases of deployment through collection of feedback from Field teams.
  • Serve as a change agent and problem solver and facilitate cross-functional activities with multi-level team members.

Experience

 

  • University degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of courier industry-specific experience.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in courier industry best practices.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of Sort Instructions, Route Design Standards, Route Optimization, Process Engineering, and Engineered Standards.
  • Working knowledge of project planning and project management.
  • Continuous improvement skill set, including change leadership, process discipline, and managing teams that produce new processes or improve existing ones.
  • Proven program and project experience, including managing people and projects.
  • Proven ability to balance a multi-project, fast-paced environment and manage conflicting priorities with tight deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Previous experience/education in effective coaching, training, and facilitation.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other computer applications.
  • Must have the ability to travel within Canada up to 30%.
