Description

 

Purolator is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Risk Manager to manage Purolator’s enterprise-wide risk management program and support in proactively identifying, assessing, and managing risks across our operations. This role will play a critical part in ensuring Purolator is protected against potential threats, resilient in the face of disruption, and compliant with insurance and risk-related requirements.

 

The Risk Manager will collaborate with operational business leaders to identify risks, recommend opportunities to strengthen risk mitigations, and communicate with all levels of management and stakeholders. Working with senior leaders, units and departments, the Risk Manager champions and coordinates the integration of risk management strategies across Purolator, identifies key areas of risk and suitable methods to objectively assess exposures, suggests and recommends risk mitigation strategies, liaises with internal stakeholders, and synthesizes information for effective communication to the Board of Directors.

 

The Risk Manager will work closely with internal stakeholders, and external partners to manage the insurance program, support claims management, and business continuity framework.

Responsibilities

 

Enterprise Risk Management (ERM)

  • Manage the ERM framework and promote an interconnected risk culture.
  • Lead the annual ERM workshops to identify and ensure top risks and mitigation strategies are tracked and reported.
  • Perform and support operations with ad-hoc risk assessments and provide advice on risk mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor and report on relevant risks and emerging trends.
  • Develop and consistently evaluate Purolator risk appetite framework to ensure timely and informed decision making.
  • Identify and implement effective risk management tools and techniques and provide support to leaders on a broad range of risk and insurance issues.
  • Oversee the development and regular updating of Purolator risk register, conduct periodic reviews, and facilitate the development of risk statements and risk management information that are relevant, applicable, and clear.
  • Support operations with the development and testing of crisis management and emergency response protocols.
  • Identify opportunities and consult on emergency response planning and business continuity planning.

 

Insurance & Claims Management

  • Administer insurance program across Purolator’s operations.
  • Oversee claims management including the notices of claims related to insurance.
  • Collaborate with insurance broker to ensure effective and timely insurance renewals, coverage negotiations, and policy documentation.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with brokers, insurers, and internal stakeholders for insurance matters.

 

Training & Awareness

  • Provide training and guidance to operational leaders and employees on risk management practices and risk assessment processes.
  • Build awareness across the organization of insurance protocols, claims processes, and business continuity expectations.

 

Reporting & Governance

  • Prepare reports and updates for senior leadership and the Board of Directors on material risk and emerging trends.
  • Ensure compliance with risk and insurance-related regulations and reporting obligations.
  • Support with tracking and monitoring incidents, losses, and the effectiveness of mitigation strategies.

 

Education

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree or professional designation such as CRM, ARM, FRM, or CPCU is an asset).
  • Designation or certification in Risk Management would be an asset, such as the Canadian Risk Management designation or the COSO ERM Certificate.

Experience

 

  • At least 5 years of progressive Risk Management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of insurance program management, enterprise risk frameworks, and business continuity planning.
  • Change management experience with an ability to embrace and champion change and drive collaboration and agile processes.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross- functional teams including the ability to coach and guide others to achieve success, organize, plan and manage risk mitigation strategies.
  • Familiarity with transportation regulations, fleet safety, and logistics risk is a strong asset.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with the Senior Leadership.
  • Proven ability to work in a time sensitive, high volume work environment, demonstrating a strong attention to detail and compliance.
  • Strong relationship-building and influencing skills.
