Job Description

Please Note: This position can be based nationally anywhere in Canada in a large metropolitan area such as Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal  

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Create, develop, and improve Purolator methods. This is a core aspect of the position and requires a hands-on approach for determining the best way to complete a procedure or job task in Purolator operations.
  • Work directly with operation management and hourly employees to determine most productive way to complete a core job functions (sorting, unloading, loading, delivery, etc.).
  • Define and document job methods. Work with learning and development to create training material for methods that you’ve designed and updated.
  • Lead the facilitation of training front line management on methods and procedures developed by the department.
  • Document route planning techniques to optimize on road productivity. Work with operations and colleagues to create route planning initiatives and implement the dispatch improvement initiatives for all Purolator terminals.
  • Create best practices for route design and Route Planning Principles. Develop audits to determine if the methods are being executed as they are expected.
  • Drive work simplification through methods and tools including digitization of operations environment, standard work to minimize learning curves and creating timely and relevant metrics to connect work instructions and results.
  • Works with region operation excellence and operations on methods implementation and production improvements.
  • Consider health and safety aspects when introducing standards and methods.
  • Participates in any new job designs, equipment, and automation to ensures methods and standards are created to accommodate.
  • Creates daily routines for both hourly and management employees.
  • Provide service support by developing standards that provide consistent and repeatable results.
  • Support finance in updating business plan efficiencies.
  • Serve as change agent, problem solver, and facilitate cross-functional activities with multi-level team members.
  • Ongoing validation of use and effectiveness of the tools and framework deployed.
  • Ongoing definition of standards and methods used at a terminal level.
  • Become a subject matter expert to create accountability for standards improvements and methods compliance.
  • Collaborate with field engineering departments nationally to create community of practice, governing tools, methods, and training to promote standard governance.
  • Work on Time Studies and develop new efficiency standards for operation.
  • Measure different jobs using Time Measurement Units and MOST techniques to create Work Measurement that can be completed for all operations in Purolator’s network.
  • The ability to travel nationally 25% to 50% of the time to site locations


  • University degree, preferably in Engineering or Business or equivalent work experience to complete documented roles and responsibilities
  • Experience working in an industry that has job methods and a set of standard expectations for each position within the company.
  • Experience with time study and work measurement, knowledge of time measurement units.
  • Demonstrated understanding of time and motion studies and or time allowance measurements.
  • Proven experience working with all levels in an organization including senior management.
  • Working knowledge of project planning and project management. Demonstrated experience in leading projects and teams.
  • Experience in the integration of engineering and management principles, including developing and improving products or services, processes, facilities, information systems, work methods and performance standards, human resource planning, production planning and control, financial and cost systems.
  • Continuous improvement skill set including change leadership, process discipline, and managing teams that produce new processes or improve existing ones. Six Sigma/Lean.
  • Strong written reporting and verbal skills for one on one, group communications and presentation skills with the ability to direct and communicate business needs.
  • Strong problem solving, communication, team building and people skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.
  • Understanding of courier delivery methods and previous on road experience is an asset.
  • Understanding of how to create courier/truck routes and execute production improvements is an asset.
  • Logistics/courier industry experience with strong understanding of typical job functions in the industry is an asset.
  • Final mile courier industry experience is an asset.
