Description

 

The Project Analytics Lead provides hands-on financial management, governance, reporting, and advisory support across enterprise programs and strategic initiatives.
 
This role combines day-to-day financial execution with medium- and long-term planning, acting as a key finance partner to project teams, functional stakeholders, and Finance leadership. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining financial discipline, forecast accuracy, compliance, and decision-ready insights across complex multi-year portfolios while supporting delivery teams in meeting approved funding, timelines, and governance requirements.
 
The role will primarily support strategic project portfolios, while also providing budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and analytical support across other business initiatives as needs evolve.
 
The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced project environment.



Responsibilities

Financial Planning, Forecasting & Portfolio Support
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for strategic projects and business initiatives, including multi-year and carryforward budgets.
  • Maintain funding trackers to monitor actual spend vs. budget and forecast.
  • Review project cost plans submitted by EPMO / Project Managers and update monthly forecasts accordingly.
  • Identify emerging risks, underspend, timing changes, or budget pressures and escalate where appropriate.
  • Support monthly reviews with project teams to understand progress, spending outlook, and forecast impacts.
  • Provide planning inputs based on historical spend, resource plans, and approved project timelines.
  • Provide budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and planning support across multiple portfolios as required.
  • Assist with monthly reporting, variance analysis, and financial commentary across assigned portfolios.
  • Support ad hoc business cases, presentations, and planning requests across multiple project areas.

Project Financial Governance
  • Support financial oversight across the project lifecycle, from funding approval through execution and closeout.
  • Assist with preparation of business cases, funding requests, AIM forms, and governance submissions.
  • Ensure purchase orders, invoices, statements of work, and change requests are properly approved and processed.
  • Maintain organized project documentation including approvals, contracts, and financial records in shared systems such as SharePoint.
  • Support CapEx / OpEx classification and asset under construction tracking in line with company policy.

Reporting & Analysis
  • Prepare recurring monthly reports, dashboards, and executive summaries for project portfolios.
  • Analyze project spend, variances, funding utilization, and forecast changes.
  • Translate financial data into clear commentary, risks, and opportunities for stakeholders.
  • Support ad hoc analysis, scenario modelling, and presentations for leadership teams.

Cross Functional Support
  • Act as a finance contact for Project Managers, business stakeholders, EPMO, Procurement, and Accounting.
  • Respond to stakeholder questions regarding budgets, invoices, forecasts, and funding status.
  • Help resolve process bottlenecks and improve coordination across teams.
  • Provide guidance on finance and procurement processes, including tools such as SAP and Ariba.

Process Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting, forecasting, trackers, and governance processes.
  • Assist with automation and simplification of recurring finance activities.
  • Maintain accurate process documentation and working files.

Education

  • University degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or related field.
  • CPA designation or progress toward designation is an asset.

Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in financial analysis, project finance, FP&A, or similar roles.
  • Strong experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and reconciliations.
  • Experience or knowledge related to project environments, project governance, or project financial support is an asset.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills required.
  • Experience with systems such as SAP, Ariba, or similar business systems is an asset.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Language Requirement: Proficiency in English is required for this position due to the frequent communications that must be conducted in English with various stakeholders. This requirement is justified by the nature of the responsibilities and operational needs.
