Reporting to the Senior Manager, National Real Estate the successful candidates will plan and manage construction projects from due diligence, conceptual design, detail design, tender, award, mobilization, completion, commissioning to turnover.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support Real Estate department with due diligence work
  • Development of project initiation and planning documents.
  • Have a working/legal knowledge of the preparation and administration of design and construction contracts.
  • Preparation of procurement documents (RFQ, RFT, RFP, Prequalification etc.) for the procurement of consultants and contractors.
  • Knowledgeable in directing consultants of all disciplines.
  • Development of project implementation schedules, liaison with clients and authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Development and preparation of project budgets (preliminary) for business cases.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft project & Excel.
  • Review of drawings and specifications, development of construction contracts, construction supervision, project financial management, project commissioning and collaboration with cross functional teams within the organization and within various territories. 
  • Report on project status to our PMO department and to the project team on weekly calls.
  • Provides direction to consultants and contractors to ensure that all projects are completed on time, within the approved budget and specifications and that construction practices comply with safety guidelines for construction projects.
  • Processing vendor invoices in compliance with Construction Lien Act requirements.
  • Travel as required to oversee projects assigned within your region.
  • Perform other duties as assigned & coverage within other regions as required.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with a provincial association of professional engineer with a mechanical, electrical, civil degree, structural or a licensed architect registered with a specific provincial association of architects specializing in building renovations, major/minor additions and new build. Experience includes but is not limited to experience in mechanical (HVAC systems, plumbing, controls, energy management concepts etc.) electrical (electrical systems, fire protection systems, power systems, energy management concepts etc.) and civil (Building envelope, Site servicing, paving work etc.).
  • Candidates are required to have a minimum of 10 years of proven successful and progressive experience in building design and construction. (Equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of educational requirements).
  • Candidates must be experienced in overseeing the development of distribution centres, warehouses specific to the transportation and warehousing industries.
  • LEED and PMP designations are preferred.
  • Experience in managing multiple large construction contracts (over $10M in value) involving consultants, construction firms and general contractors.
  • Solid background in preparing and administering consulting and construction agreements.
  • Must be able to read and interpret drawings and specifications and have strong trouble shooting and problem solving skills.
  • Must be a seasoned multi-tasker comfortable with juggling multiple priorities and maintaining accuracy, composure.
  • Candidates must be excellent project executors who understand urgency tempered with a customer service focus.
  • Knowledgeable in the Occupational Health and Safety Act, NFPA, ASHRAE, Fire Code, OBC, TSSA, Electrical Code as it applies to construction projects.
  • Excellent time management skills in managing workload and work schedules.
  • Experience in planning, developing and delivering complex, multi-phase projects as well as lifecycle and renovation projects in the private sector environment.
  • Basic accounting and financial management skills pertaining to projects.
  • Solid writing and presentation skills.
  • Strong inter-personal skills and the ability to negotiate effectively.
  • Commitment to working in a team-based environment with a focus on continuous improvement.
