Job Description

This position will be responsible for providing strong leadership through the development and management of Purolator’s first, middle and final mile Special Handling and Heavyweight network planning and design strategy. This lead role, reporting to the Senior Manager, Network Strategy & Design, is a highly visible position contributing to the company’s strategic growth by driving transformational change in the transportation network. The successful incumbent will work with their team to successfully influence and implement successive changes, including the implementation of technology, to improve cost-to-serve, flexibility and quality of service.



Key Responsibilities will include:


  • Baselining best practices associated with the handling, transportation and storage of non-standard parcels within leading courier and LTL networks.  
  • Evaluation and development of first, middle and final mile capacity model through understanding customer demand, costs and constraints of the existing network as well as future requirements. Using your analytical and operational skill set, drive data-backed capacity decision making.
  • Lead the development and deployment of the strategic facility road map including detailed planning and development of the road map and required business cases for Special Handling and Heavyweight items. Lead initiatives and projects with cross-functional teams, serving as a change agent, problem solver, team leader & coach
  • Support the mid to long term strategic network design working with key stakeholders in the first, middle and last mile. Work with go-to market leaders to proactively build network capabilities to support Purolator’s growth offerings. Responsible for assessing and designing existing and future network strategic requirements for Special Handling and Heavyweight to drive transformation in service levels, operational efficiencies and continuous improvement.





  • University graduate in program of mechanical / industrial engineering, supply chain management, logistics, mathematics and or operations research specialty with minimum 5-10 years of related experience and open to dynamic individuals within other disciplines that can demonstrate knowledge with industry.
  • 7+ years’ experience within Operations, Engineering, or Transportation industry (especially LTL or courier heavyweight/over-sized categories)
  • Operational experience implementing large scale national initiatives and/or technical innovations (Grow new ideas related to technology from concept to positive business results)
  • Continuous improvement skill set including change leadership, process discipline, and managing teams that produce new processes or improve existing ones. Six Sigma/Lean Black Belt an asset
  • Working knowledge of project planning and project management. Demonstrated experience in leading project and teams. Project Management Certification an asset
  • Strong written and oral communication skills including experience with stakeholder management, conducting cross-functional process workshops with business partners to clarify business issues and understanding underlying drivers.
  • Strong relationship building both internally and externally with customers
  • Advanced MS Project, Excel and PowerPoint knowledge
