Description

The Senior Law Clerk – Real Estate provides high-level legal and administrative support for the acquisition, leasing, development and management of the Purolator’s extensive real estate portfolio, which includes hubs, terminals, warehouses, retail locations and office spaces across Canada and in the United States.


 

Key Responsibilities

  • Play an important role in supporting management of a large and diverse portfolio of leased properties, as well as real estate acquisitions, dispositions, financings and property management matters across Canada.
  • Review, prepare first drafts (as applicable), and provide comments on lease and sublease agreements, amendments, renewals and terminations.
  • Prepare and maintain the schedule and process for lease renewals.
  • Provide support and liaise with external counsel, as required, in relation to all necessary documentation and due diligence for real estate acquisition transactions and related matters, including agreements of purchase and sale, title searches, mortgages and closing documents.
  • Conduct due diligence, including reviewing and reporting on title and off-title searches, corporate searches, zoning compliance and surveys.
  • Assist with compliance with applicable real estate laws, regulations and policies.
  • Coordinate and organize real estate insurance requirements.

 

  • Maintain, review and make necessary amendments to internal records and files.

 

  • Work closely with internal business units, external counsel, landlords and other stakeholders.
  • Lead and influence stakeholders to complete necessary steps in order to meet deadlines.
  • Assist in other legal matters involving real property, as required, including claims, disputes, litigation and land use matters.

Qualifications

  • Law Clerk Diploma/Certificate from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience, preferably within a large organization
  • Strong knowledge of commercial real estate transactions and lease administration practices.
  • Strong understanding of land registration systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple files and priorities with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
