Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Corporate Strategy and Product Management, this role is responsible for optimizing and driving profitable revenue growth across Purolator’s suite of products & services. Leading a team of eight professionals, you will model the way toward delivering strong team results while supporting individual growth & development. 


Key Accountabilities:

 

Product Management Strategy / Plan

  • Develops an overall view of Product Strategy and works collaboratively with the Strategy department to articulate the long-term product roadmap inclusive of new products to bring to market Strategic planning and management of the entire product portfolio; definition and alignment of the vision, priorities, long-term strategy and roadmap, with all business partners and Executive Team. 
  • Provides analysis of industry trends, competitive solutions, and areas of opportunity 
  • Responsible for developing product marketing plans to drive profitable revenue growth for the portfolio of courier products Responsible for all aspects of product development and marketing from initiation to market launch and post-launch evaluation.
  • Responsible for leading Marketing projects that could involve activities such as implementing changes to the way we interact with our customers, identifying product/revenue optimization opportunities, and implementing activities to improve the customer relationship and customer loyalty
  • Identifies opportunities for product enhancements, product growth, etc., and collaborates with business units across Purolator (Communications, Field Marketing, Operations, Customer Care, Engineering, IT, Sales, etc.) to ensure alignment and awareness of Marketing activities, product developments, impacts, opportunities, etc. 
  • Create and present strategic & innovative proposals as well as business cases to develop the solutions for the Executive Collaboration Team
  • Work closely with the Executive Collaboration Team and provide input on strategic product initiatives to achieve organizational goals; areas of input may include product collection management, product innovation, product extension, and product life cycle management
  • Define and drive continuous prioritization based on short-term wins and long-term strategy, analyzing trade-offs, customer and business needs
  • Maintain strong communication and collaboration with leaders from other departments to ensure alignment on objectives and initiatives

 

Product and Customer Subject Matter Expert

  • SME on all things related to product and customer experience. Called on to provide input, analyze solutions and synthesize data to problem-solve or provide direction for solution development
  • Content Advisor to ensure accuracy on business rules, product and service documentation including collateral, Purolator.com, sales information, processes, and Terms & Conditions
  • Engage in various high-priority strategic initiatives and ad hoc strategic requests by the Executive Team
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for Product / Service Directory and provide guidance to the leadership team on customer needs, business strategy, marketplace dynamics, and competitors

 

Service Design Optimization

 

  • Provide leadership & direction to the team responsible for the management of the Service Directory database and any service change requests from a customer perspective in order to mitigate risks,
  • Contribute to all project teams where there will be a customer impact to ensure all impacts are considered, understood, and addressed
  • Bring an externally focused view to all strategic service-related projects to ensure appropriate considerations are taken – acts as “consultant” to all teams and provides insights and answers that will assist in developing solutions within operations, revenue management, Sales, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with operations and engineering to optimize company profitability by evaluating recommended service changes/ adjustments and analyzing alternative levels of service (days’ time in transit and time of day delivery) from a customer and competitive standpoint
  • Work with Operations to analyze and make recommendations on broader service deterioration that is impacting operating cost or customer satisfaction

 

Analytics, Business Information, and Product Insights

 

  • Analyze product monthly reporting, data, and trends to develop insights and recommended action Revamped monthly business reviews for a more insightful view of our business; planning Quarterly Business Reviews with the intent to take these to Executive meetings every quarter
  • Analyze internal and external data to ensure a clear understanding of customer impacts when making recommendations on solutions or influencing decisions. Conduct in-depth data analysis to assess and forecast financial impacts to ensure informed decisions.
  • Track industry and market trends to identify threats and opportunities to assist with decision-making and optimize the value we are bringing to the customer.

 

Team Management

 

  • Manage cross-team dynamics to ensure the entire team is successful, proactively instituting process improvements across the team, e.g., review and provide feedback on roadmaps, strategic plans, and feature specs
  • Plan the structure of the Product team, managing headcount, succession planning, external hires, and internal transfers
  • Manage the performance of the Product team, including providing regular feedback, holding recurring 1x1’s, writing performance reviews, determining compensation, making promotion decisions, leveling up the skill set of the team, coaching through difficult situations, providing constructive feedback
  • Coach the Product team to generate detailed product plans for each portfolio as well as refreshed monthly business reviews, providing more business insight to stakeholders across the business
  • Manage hiring process for product roles and oversee/lead the onboarding and training of new team members


Requirements 

  • A minimum of 5 years of marketing or product management experience, preferably in transportation and/or supply chain
  • An undergraduate degree is mandatory; a Master's degree is preferred
  • Degree preferable in business, marketing, engineering
  • Customer-focused orientation.
  • Advanced organizational, quantitative, and analytical skills.
  • Experience leading complex initiatives in a corporate environment, with good project management skills.
  • Ability to synthesize information from a broad range of sources, develop clear recommendations, communicate complex ideas and build consensus across multiple stakeholders
  • Experience with all phases of the product development and launch process
  • Ability to translate business requests into capabilities related to core business services and create actionable plans for execution to agreed timelines
  • Ability to manage time effectively, take well-informed, calculated risks, and maintain focus (anticipate, prioritize, plan, initiate and take proactive action in order to achieve results)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across all management levels within a corporate environment
