Job Description

The Senior Manager, Pension & Benefits leads the strategic planning, development, implementation, evaluation, governance, and continuous improvement of Purolator’s retirement programs, group benefit plans, mental health & wellness strategy, and other employee benefit programs (i.e., employee & family assistance, discount program, employee share ownership program).

 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing the strategy for retirement plans (defined benefit & capital accumulation plans), group benefit (including disability management), and wellness programs to align with the total rewards vision, which enables Purolator to attract and retain talent.
  • Development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of retirement benefits, wellness programs, plan designs, policies, and procedures.
  • Reviewing best practices and Purolator-specific utilization and metrics to make recommendations to programs, plan design, policies, etc., including the preparation of required business cases for return on investment when considering new programs or initiatives.
  • Responsible for the facilitation and management of the programs for the business.
  • Leading the execution of the quarterly Management Pension Committee meetings, coordination of regulatory filings, consultation and vendor management with consultants, investment managers, record keepers, and plan trustees, and managing pension funding processes.
  • Partner with HR and business leaders to understand their needs regarding retirement, benefits, and wellness and evolve our programs, communications, and approaches to support the organization.
  • Leading HR and cross-functional projects from a total rewards perspective and will work closely with various internal stakeholder groups (i.e., Health & Safety, Strategy, etc.) to ensure programs support the strategic objectives of the organization.
  • Works closely with external stakeholders (i.e., EFAP provider, disability provider, benefits provider, consultants, etc.) to gain insights on employee utilization and program supports, contract renewal & management, and service level reviews.
  • Responsible for recommending short-term and long-term total rewards strategies that will impact both employees and the organization.
    Qualifications
  • A University degree with a focus in Business Management or Human Resources is preferred.
  • Certified Human Resources Professional, with Certified Human Resources Leader designation, is preferred.
  • Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS), or relevant experience required
  • Over 5 years and including 7 years (progressive experience)
  • In-depth knowledge and progressive experience in retirement, group benefits, disability management, and wellness programs. Specifically, this would include federal legislation, governance, industry standards/best practices, and insurer arrangements.
  • In-depth knowledge of developing business cases including quantifying return on investment.
  • Ability to work independently to review and make recommendations concerning strategy, program evaluation, continuous improvement of programs, program deployment, and execution.
  • Required to have prior progressive experience managing retirement, benefits, and wellness strategy development and must be comfortable communicating, presenting, and promoting wellness through all levels of the organization.
  • Prior experience reviewing various utilization and metrics to gain insights on programs and using data analytics to present insights or recommendations to leadership in a way that communicates the object clearly and supports decision making.
  • Prior involvement in board-level committee meetings and material preparations.
