Overview:   Reporting into the Digital Channels Team within IT, the Software Development Manager will lead the end- to-end development of the Receiver Solutions Platform.  The Receiver Solutions team designs and develops the User Experience of customer facing solutions for customers that are receiving packages delivered by Purolator.  These applications provide customers visibility to where their package is at any point of time and sends out proactive notifications to keep them up to date.  Key features would include setting delivery preferences, making an address correction, a holistic view of all your shipments and more.  What will you help us implement next?

 

Purolator is seeking a passionate and innovative Software Development Manager interested in AWS cloud full-stack implementations.  You will partner with stakeholders across Purolator product lines to build a best-in-class Receiver Solutions software platform, enabling business to continuously improve the business solutions and Purolator Brand.  Responsibilities include direct management of software developers, product definition, strategic planning, delivery management for software within the team, and quality of the software development deliveries.

The Software Development Manager Will:

  • Manage the end-to-end development process to ensure that the right solutions are delivered and address any operational concerns once in production.
  • Maintain the ongoing solutions delivered to the Product Owners and Business stakeholders, acting as the platform/ application owner.
  • Shape the overall product experience and scope of the product through partnership and collaboration with product management and product marketing.
  • Ensure product quality, including user experience, testability, performance.
  • Lead the application architecture and design in collaboration with the Enterprise Solutions Architect and Security Architects.
  • Act in the scrum master role, coordinating agile ceremonies.
  • Lead technical design sessions, review design and development tasks.
  • Work with business stakeholders to understand the true requirements underlying feature requests.
  • Be accountable to the quality, timeliness, budget and business acceptability of the work.
  • Coach and develop a team of Software Developers, Designers, Business Analysts and QA Developers in their craft.
  • Establish development best practices and effective DevOps process.
  • Drive continual improvements to the efficiency and flexibility of the platform.
  • Develop & maintain security solutions to ensure corporate assets are secure and both corporate and customer interests are protected consistent with industry standards, published best practices and corporate data security standards.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • 6-10 years of experience developing software and software development life cycle.
  • 5+ years of experience leading a software development team.
  • Experience building and enhancing customer facing applications with focus on customer experience.
  • Hands-on expertise in many disparate technologies, ranging from front-end user interfaces through to back-end systems and all points in between.
  • Familiar with the following technologies and provide leadership and guidance to the team on the following:
    • Maintaining Java/J2EE/Angular/React/Postgres/Dynamo DB based applications.
    • Building and maintaining Restful APIs as a service.
    • Building and operating large scale, distributed systems using AWS Cloud Technologies.
    • CICD processes and tools e.g. Git/Bitbucket/Ansible.
    • Jira/ Confluence.
  • Experience in partnering with product and program management teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with peers and non-technical stakeholders.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Practical experience with software engineering best practices.
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Experience with Agile software development methodologies.
  • Proven track record of building and managing high performing development teams.
  • Passion for people management and developing developers' careers.
  • A desire to grow and develop those around you through coaching and mentoring.
  • Passion to build, problem solve and to be part of the solution.
  • Nice to have a strong Project Managment bacground or PMP
