Job Description

 

This role will lead and perform strategic network analysis including the implementation of network optimization and modelling tools for Purolator’s air and ground, regional and national networks to support the Company’s strategic priorities such as:

  • Using engineering, optimization and front line operational knowledge, provide solutions to complex business problems in the areas of network transportation flow models, network design, capacity planning, flexible demand planning
  • Develop and Implement tools to support operational planning, performance and optimization
  • Analyze data to support Network & Capacity Planning, Holiday Planning and find network opportunities for improvement
  • Work cross functionally to validate and determine appropriate solutions, model alternatives with network and simulation tools including Supply Chain Guru and ensure timely execution.
  • Design, develop, maintain and support analytical tools to automate Network & Capacity Planning, holiday planning, and service rationalization processes.
  • Initiate and develop tracking tools to measure accountability of project results
  • Support Internal and External Customers with respect to finding, analyzing and measuring opportunities in the network.
  • Create customized reporting for management and team.
  • Responsible for maintenance of forecast, planning and network model, keeping it up to date and error free; optimize to support cost savings initiatives for the group of companies.
  • Support the design, initiation and improvement of corporate information and technological systems
  • Support maintenance and continuous improvement of Capacity and Network Engineering Information Systems and Databases.
  • Support the operations expense and capital planning and budgeting process
  • Assess the network foot print to optimize the location, size and coverage model of Hubs, depots, retail centers, etc. to both maximize service and minimize cost.
  • Identify strategic and tactical opportunities and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Ensure team members, management and stakeholders to understand the nature of the projects, expectations, deliverables, risks, progress and milestones.

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience in optimization tools and techniques as well as knowledge of best in class transportation and logistics methodologies
  • University degree (or equivalent work experience) in mechanical/industrial engineering, logistics, mathematics and or operations research
  • 2-5 years’ experience within Operations, Engineering, or Transportation industry
  • Successfully able to implement change and enhance a team based culture within a unionized environment
  • Front line operational experience
  • Professional Engineering Designation or degree or previous experience in an Operations Research and Operational/Business Analytics role
  • 5 or more years’ experience in an engineering, project management, business analyst in Supply Chain, Logistics and/or transportation industries.
  • Engineering principles: Integration of engineering and management, including developing and improving products or services, processes, facilities, information systems, work methods and performance standards, supply chain planning, human resources planning, production planning and control, financial and cost systems, and distribution systems.
  • Operations Research: Knowledge of operations research tools and methodologies such as Optimization, simulation, modeling, engineering statistics, among others.
  • Data Analysis: Strong competency with SQL, VBA, Access, advanced spreadsheets, Database software, R, Python
  • Project Management: project and time management skills with the ability to prioritize competing projects
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects to ensure timely delivery.
  • Strong communication skills, problem solving, time management and planning skills. Must be able to negotiate with senior managers when recommending new methods and procedures.

  • Initiate and develop tracking tools to measure accountability of project results
  • Develop an understanding/ knowledge of who the customer is and what issues/priorities are important to the customer in order to be able to help the customer define his/her requirements.
  • Provide support to Operations Transformation Team including internal & external customerswith respect to finding, analyzing and measuring opportunities in the network.
