Description
The Data Governance Analyst plays a key role on the Data Management & Governance team, supporting the implementation of a scalable, enterprise-wide data governance framework. This role focuses on developing and sustaining governance policies, standards, and processes to ensure data is accurate, consistent, well-defined, and compliant with business and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a passion for enabling trusted analytics through effective data quality and stewardship practices. This is a mid-level individual contributor role requiring close collaboration across business, technology, and analytics teams to drive governance initiatives forward.
Responsibilities
- Partner with business units and data stewards to establish data standards, definitions, and policies aligned with the enterprise governance framework.
- Facilitate the creation, implementation, and oversight of data governance policies and processes based on industry best practices.
- Develop and maintain business glossaries, data dictionaries, and other metadata assets to support transparency and alignment across business and analytics teams.
- Support the design and rollout of data quality strategies, including frameworks for monitoring, measuring, and improving data quality across systems.
- Help define and support data stewardship responsibilities across domains by coordinating with subject matter experts and process owners.
- Identify data quality issues and work with data owners and system owners to resolve root causes through process or system enhancements.
- Partner with Data Engineering, Analytics, and business teams to integrate governance principles into data pipeline development and reporting solutions.
- Create and maintain data governance dashboards, metrics, and performance reporting.
- Assist with the coordination of the Data Governance Council and related working groups to promote cross-functional alignment on issue management, change control, and business-critical data elements.
- Act as a liaison between business and IT teams to ensure data governance requirements are understood, prioritized, and implemented.
- Support regulatory compliance efforts by maintaining documentation and controls related to data governance activities.
- Stay current with data governance and information management trends, tools, and best practices.
Qualifications and Skills
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Business, Data Management, or a related field.
- 3-4 years of experience in data governance, data quality, or data management roles
- Strong understanding of data governance principles, frameworks, and industry standards (e.g., DAMA, DCAM).
- Experience developing and supporting data dictionaries, business glossaries, and metadata repositories, along with practical experience in data cataloging, master data management (MDM), and data lineage concepts.
- Understanding of cloud data ecosystems (e.g., AWS, Azure, Snowflake) and how governance policies apply in those environments.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills across business and technical teams.
- Comfortable facilitating discussions, documenting outcomes, and driving action plans in a matrixed organization.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio).
Preferred:
- Experience using data management tools, including those supporting metadata management, data stewardship and master data management.
- Exposure to data quality or BI tools (e.g., Power BI) and their role in supporting data governance reporting.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to data and how governance supports compliance.
