Technology Developer

Description

This role will build and maintain the backend services behind our high-volume logistics and tracking platform. This critical service feeds systems where correctness, throughput, and reliability actually matter because real shipments depend on them.

This is a backend-first role for someone who wants to go deep on the server side, not spread thin across the stack. You'll own services end to end: design, implementation, tests, and the pipeline that ships them. We value depth. We'd rather hire someone who is genuinely strong on the backend and honest about the limits of their front-end experience than someone who claims to do everything. If you're the kind of engineer who cares about test coverage, sound design, and writing code the next person can actually maintain, you'll fit here.

Responsibilities

• Design and build backend services in Java, with an emphasis on clean, maintainable architecture
• Design and build event-driven services and the messaging/streaming flows that connect them
• Write and maintain automated tests (unit, intergration, and service-level) as a first-class part of your work not as an afterthought
• Apply established design patterns appropriately (and know when not to reach for one)
• Work with AWS-hosted infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines to deliver changes safely and frequently
• Model, query, and tune data in PostgreSQL which means writing SQL you can reason about, not just ORM output
• Collaborate on API design and contracts with other teams consuming your services
• Support and operate the services you build by investigating production issues, own incidents in your area, and keep things healthy in the long run
• Participate in code review, raise the bar on quality, and help keep the codebase honest

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent work experience
  
  

Experience

What we're looking for

• Strong hands-on Java backend experience meaning you can design a non-trivial service, not just add endpoints to an existing one
• Practical experience with automated testing frameworks and a genuine habit of writing tests (JUnit and similar; familiarity with mocking, test data, and integration testing)
• Solid grasp of software design patterns and object-oriented design, with the judgment to apply them proportionally
• Strong SQL ability and hands-on PostgreSQL experience including schema design, query tuning, and understanding what the database is actually doing
• Experience designing and building event-driven systems (message queues, event streams, async processing)
• Working knowledge of AWS (common services, deployment, how your code runs in the cloud)
• Comfort with CI/CD and modern build/deployment workflows
• Ability to reason about performance, concurrency, and failure in a high-volume system

Nice to have

• Front-end experience (React, Angular, or similar) is useful when a task spans the stack
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform)
• Background in logistics, tracking, or other high-throughput transactional domains
• Experience with newer Java versions (21+) and modern language features
