Job Description

The Automation Technician provides technical support for automated material handling equipment in the distribution center using complex troubleshooting and problem solving with an array of technical tools.

Job Description

  • This position requires working on the operations floor and at moderate heights.
  • Perform electromechanical repairs to Material Handling Equipment, (MHE) following industry standards for Health and Safety and the Electrical Code.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to ensure production downtime is minimized.
  • Troubleshoot automated material handling equipment using ladder and list based PLC based technologies.Program, troubleshoot and repair or replace sensors, scanners, visualization systems, motors, frequency inverters and encoders.
  • Assist in identifying root cause of faults and operations errors.
  • Work with HMI staff to ensure maximum system uptime in support of Operations.
  • Fill in work orders from CMMS and order materials for system repairs and system service & maintenance.

This position is for the night shift from Monday - Friday. Occasional Overtime hours, weekend and holiday work required to support operations.  Salary as per collective agreement.


Qualification Requirements:

  • College degree in Automation or equivalent combination of education and experience in similar work.
  • 3 years’ experience with PLC, VFD, servo-motors, and encoders.
  • Familiarity with automation technology for automated conveyors and sorter systems.
  • Knowledge of bus systems, e.g. Ethernet, ASI, Profibus.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in French and basic English.
  • Electrical license C (out of construction) would be an asset.
