Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with health and safety rules, guidelines, regulations and best practices. Conduct detailed investigations following accidents or “near miss” incident
- Be a leader in health and safety by proposing new measures, new ideas for improvement and managing projects to reduce the risk of injury
- Be responsible for assigning tasks, scheduling, controlling (incl. discipline) and paying a multidisciplinary team of mechanics, automation technicians, unlicensed tradespersons & MHE warehouse workers (5-15 employees)
- Manage, motivate, develop and provide direct leadership to front line maintenance staff including assigning work orders, addressing employee concerns and managing employee productivity
- Contribute to developing and maintaining of a positive work environment by engaging and motivating employees
- Performs periodic inspections of recently maintained equipment to observe the quality of maintenance performed and the operating condition of equipment. Monitor repairs performed by employees to verify quality standards and productivity requirements
- Develop and manage maintenance programs for material handling equipment to ensure work order completion, and performance
- Ensure that the maintenance programs for material handling equipment generate an uptime of 99.95%
- Follow up on the planning of corrective and preventive maintenance of equipment, establishing priorities and estimating the necessary work time and resources
- Verify and prepare parts for major jobs. Work with planners to ensure procurement of supplies, parts, services, and equipment
- Prepare major equipment repairs to be done during equipment shutdowns for internal crews and contractors
- Participate in daily and weekly meetings with Operations, ensuring the link between day, night and evening work between the various maintenance teams
- Assist in the implementation of projects
- Participate in the development of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- Work in collaboration with the Regional Maintenance Manager to provide and/or ensure effective training and development of employees
- Participate in the hiring process of new employees as well as the implementation of the best structure of the Maintenance department to support the Operations team
Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years experience in a supervisory, control and management role of skilled trades (automation technicians, mechanics, general building maintenance workers)
- Experience with in a 24/7 operating environment
- Strong mechanical and electrical maintenance background and skills. Must have hands-on experience and troubleshooting skills. Experience in a facility in the logistics industry is an asset
- Completion of a bachelor's degree or technical engineering degree or strong equivalent experience
- Working knowledge and experience with CMMS software; proficiency with general MS Office software, experience with time tracking and payroll software (SAP)
- General knowledge of health and safety (CNESST), knowledge of safety standards for conveyor systems and handling equipment
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing in English and French
- Excellent time management and priority setting skills
- Excellent communication, customer service, interpersonal and leadership skills
- Flexibility is required to work weekends, holidays, and afternoon/night shifts as required by Operations and scheduled stops
- Proficient in some, if not all, of the following areas:
- Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA);
- Fault-tree analysis (FTA);
- Root cause analysis methodologies;
- Data analysis techniques including statistical process control, reliability modeling and prediction, Six Sigma (6σ) methodologies.
