The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for leading the Western Canada maintenance systems and overseeing the continuous improvement of our equipment for all maintenance department operations. The manager will ensure the team has the best physical resources available to complete their duties according to budget.




  • Responsible for the development and supervision of a team of employees within the maintenance department (skilled tradespersons) to effectively deploy good maintenance practices in the implementation of the maintenance program.
  • Review performance results of maintenance programs at a local, regional, and national level.
  • Asset obsolescence planning and service agreements
  • Supporting the capital investment planning process
  • Inventory management - through the inventory manager
  • Oversee regulatory compliance obligations
  • Health & Safety standard reviews – safety alerts, compliance documentation, training documents, etc.
  • Policies and Procedures – LOTO, Hot Work, Working at Heights, Confined Space
  • Safety Audits including PHSRs
  • Quality Metrix’s (KPIs, performance targets)
  • Budgeting, Forecast, Overtime Management
  • Development of maintenance department required skills, gaps in skills, workforce planning
  • Asset Performance Management - RCM, Disruption Reporting, and Escalation, Root Cause Analysis
  • Vendor / Contract management
  • Oversee medium to large-scale continuous improvement projects within the Maintenance / Engineering function
  • Review MHE maintenance expenses for opportunities to implement best practices.
  • Review inventory and contractor management programs and performance for opportunities to implement best practices.




  • 7+ years experience in leading Maintenance teams at scale
  • Experience managing within a unionized environment
  • Champions and models a safety-first environment by positively driving the maintenance team safety culture through training, addressing safety issues, and building strong employee safety attitudes.
  • Leads the maintenance team responsible for all Hub and Terminal Material Handling Equipment within the assigned region or area
  • Works with HSE and Operations teams to create, implement, and maintain an OSHA-compliant Process Safety Management (PSM) framework and workplace.
  • Develop equipment files and implement the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for management and documentation of facility maintenance work and asset history.
  • Develop and execute annual engineering and maintenance plans (safety, environmental, quality, personnel, financial, etc.) and budgets in alignment with business plan objectives.
  • Works with the group and Operations Teams to develop and execute engineered solutions to resolve facility issues.
  • Creates a base of qualified vendors to source materials and execute work as needed and to ensure resources are available on short notice.
  • Develops teams through the establishment of goals. Provides coaching and mentoring through informal as well as the formal performance review process to effectively communicate and manage employee performance.
  • Creates an environment of self-development and self-direction for the workforce through coaching and training on equipment knowledge, skills, and techniques to provide organizational strength and individual growth.
  • Responsible for assuring all company policies, rules and guidelines are being followed and administered fairly and consistently.
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to motivate & develop both senior and junior-level staff.
