Research & Innovation Lead (Western Canada)

Purolator Digital Lab, Applied Research & Innovation

Purolator Digital Lab (PDL) is a department of Purolator Inc. that is dedicated to the rapid development and engineering of technologies. Our goal is to enable Purolator with technology to be the premier freight, parcel, and logistics provider in Canada. The PDL is a well-funded startup within Purolator, a progressive and profitable Canadian company. The PDL is developing several systems to drive new business for Purolator and our strategic partners. We are looking for a Research & Innovation Lead to join our Applied Research & Innovation (AR&I) team, to research and develop new capabilities, and deliver them in Western Canada.

The Role

As a Lead Research & Innovation, you will design, develop, and build new and innovative solutions for Purolator supply chain and distribution network. You will engage all levels of the Purolator business from end-to-end, as you improve operating models and processes.

You will work with our clients within Purolator operations and beyond. You seek to understand their needs, and actively contribute towards all areas of solution development. You will participate in deploying new capabilities and processes and take advantage of the many learnings in the pursuit of a successful project.

In this role you will:


  • Manage and lead research & development studies.
  • Manage and lead project portfolios in supply chain, logistics, transportation, courier express and parcel (CEP), alongside internal stakeholders, academia, institutions, and organizations.
  • Lead and support the business to define, design, develop and test solutions, including new processes, software, and equipment 
  • Actively communicate activities and achieved results
  • Guide and support management in acquisition of new technology solutions and equipment


To succeed in this role, you will:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in planning, multi-tasking, and project leadership
  • Develop creative prototypes, concepts, and optimizations
  • Use product development skills such as design, modelling, simulation, analysis, refinement, and validation.
  • Use testing techniques and audits, with a strong understanding of process assurances and automation

The Candidate

Ideal candidates would:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or related discipline.  A master’s or doctorate degree with a Professional Engineering license is preferred.
  • 3 - 5 years analysis and design experience for complex solutions related to supply chain and the CEP industry.
  • Demonstrate out-of-the-box thinking, and be genuinely excited about technology
  • Effectively communicate, present, and write documentation
  • Have an aptitude for learning new skills
  • Find joy in helping your teammates achieve their goals, enjoy building relationships with peers outside of your team

This role is hybrid-remote, requiring travel to Purolator sites, and will supplement the AR&I team located across Canada.
