The role:

Reporting to the Vice President of Network Operations, the Senior Director, Network Transportation Operations Excellence will be responsible for designing and deploying an optimal performance and reliability strategy across the Purolator network. In order to maximize and modernize our assets and processes, this role will focus on three strategic portfolios:

  • Fleet: with over 5500 vehicles and 45 Service centres across our network this role will be responsible for driving strategic investments in carbon emission reductions, reliability, and safety leveraging the latest technologies,
  • Material Handling Equipment: maintaining and modernizing our equipment to increase uptime and reduce touch points, while fast tracking our automation strategy, and
  • Transportation & Hub:  Maximizing operational performance through identified key performance indicators for all network operations functions. Providing business intelligence and insights on operations performance, key levers and improvement opportunities. Owning the overall operations management review cadence which includes monthly business reviews, national business reviews and field operation reviews.

The ideal candidate will have the following professional characteristics:

The Senior Director, Network Transportation Operations Excellence will:

  • Promote a people focused culture aligned with Purolator's Values and lead Purolator’s vision to be the safest, most reliable, and responsible courier company in Canada
  • Drive innovation, and modernization in electro-mechanical automation and leading Canadas largest courier fleet electrification transformation. Introduce new technologies and strategies for asset automation, electrification and modernization in our hub, terminal and network operations.
  • Manage all aspects of fleet and mechanical maintenance, engineering and modernization
  • Create an environment in which the team is challenged, coached and mentored to continuously improve. Positively shape managerial attitudes and behaviour to drive performance excellence. Lead and develop team members.
  • Participate in and lead long term planning activities that align with Purolator's vision, business objectives, and strategic priorities
  • Design and implement a 3-5 year asset reliability business strategy (including associated capital and operating budget), that aligns with the company’s 5-year priorities, by working with internal and external stakeholders
  • Work with cross-functional teams, develop and deploy initiatives and projects to drive asset reliability improvements and targeted performance
  • Create and conduct benchmarking and tracking systems that support the integration of sustainable principles in the design, implementation, and management of new and existing assets
  • Design, implement and continuously enhance a vehicle utilization strategy to improve key performance indicators (KPI’s)
  • Drive specific thought leadership plans to advance our asset reliability pillar

 

To be successful, you should have:

  • University degree in Business or Industrial / Mechanical engineering, or related disciplines including supply chain management.  MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years in a proven senior leadership role with a track record of success in maximizing electrification and enhancing automation technologies in a distribution and fleet environment. Experience in an ecommerce industry is an asset.
  • Vision & strategic foresight. An excellent communicator with a natural ability to think ahead and leverage key insights to quickly assimilate new concepts, recognize trends in the industry and pivot managements thinking to add value to our business. Strong analytical insights to make insightful decisions.
  • Strong technical knowledge. Enhanced automation and information systems skills. Experience in managing complex systems that rely on both industrial hardware and various forms of software.
  • Other important things: a natural ability to challenge and improve the status quo (Lean Six Sigma preferred), and a great personality!
